Plus, with corner, border, and center cut options, you can create small kits that are easy to handle or go for a full wall-to-wall installation that will knock your socks off! And the best part? You can use them indoors or out, and the loose-lay installation means you won't need to break a sweat applying adhesive. Plus, with a 5-year limited warranty, you can trust that these tiles will be with you for the long haul. Get ready to tile like a boss with Strong Rubber Tiles!
Material – Recycled SBR rubber and colored EPDM virgin rubber flecks.
Size – 23” x 23” (Interlocked size - 23" x 23")
Thickness – 8 mm thick (approx. 5/16")
Weight – Each rubber tile weighs approximately 6.7 Lbs.
Recommended Uses – Strong Rubber Tiles have been used successfully in multiple settings: school weight rooms, dog care facilities, locker rooms, dugouts, over radiant heated floors, in basements, in outdoor storage sheds, and in a variety of other places where an anti-slip flooring with shock-absorbing properties would be beneficial. They have also been used as home gym flooring, ski lodge flooring, boathouse flooring, and golf course clubhouse flooring.
Note: – Orders that are more than 100 tiles have a lead time of 5-20 business days.
Note: – Due to the manufacturing process, slight shade variations may occur. These differences are inherent in predominantly black rubber with recycled content.

In Stock - Ships between Oct 11 - 16

Strong Rubber Tiles are very durable as well as easy to maintain and keep clean. Maintenance for interlocking gym tiles include:
  • Vacuum any loose crumbs, dust or debris from the flooring surface when necessary.
  • Occasionally damp mopping with a mild soap and water solution. Recommended soaps are Dawn dish detergent or Tide laundry detergent.
Note: Do not use any solvent or oil style cleaners such as Pinesol, Lysol, Murphy’s Oil Soap, WD40, paint thinner, etc. since these types of cleaners will break down the flooring over time.

Installation of these interlocking tiles is very simple and usually done by the consumer. Typical installation of these tiles is as follows:
  1. First, clean your subfloor, so it is free of all dirt, grease, or debris.
  2. Start in one corner of the room with a corner tile and add border tiles outward along the adjacent walls.
  3. Leave the other two edges of the room open and fill in the rest of the room, adding center, corner, and border tiles where you see fit.
  4. After the open floor is covered, go back and cut in tiles along the opposite walls in the room. We recommend leaving a gap along the walls roughly the tiles' thickness being used to account for expansion and contraction of the floor in varied temperature ranges.
Note: When piecing interlocking tiles together, adhesives aren’t usually needed since the weight of the product is usually enough to keep the floor tiles from moving. However, if you do experience movement and would like to ensure that the tiles do not slide at all, you can use some double-sided tape or mat tape around the perimeter of the installation to prevent any movement.

Don't see what you're looking for?
Can these tiles be used outside?
Tony
Our 8mm Strong Rubber tiles can be used outside, however, they are not UV stable and may fade in direct sunlight. Also, with temperature fluctuations you will see some expansion and contraction of your flooring which may cause the tiles to separate or buckle. Recycled rubber flooring is porous and salts or dirt may get trapped in the pores. Cleaning of these tiles is very easy and can be done with a hose and some mild soap and water.
I want to use your rubber interlocking tiles in my wood shop. I have two major concerns: My contractors table saw weighs about 400 #. First, would it be easy to roll the saw over the tiles and second, if the saw sat in the same location for say 6 months at a time would the tiles be permanently deformed?
Anonymous
Your contractor saw would be able to roll easily over our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles. No matter how long the machine is left in any location on the floor, the floor will not be permanently indented.
How do I get rid of the strong rubber smell?
Aron
To get rid of the rubber smell of our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles, we suggest using a mild soap and water solution. You may have to repeat this process a few times to get the smell to dissipate. Make sure you have enough ventilation in the room installed. Also, cleaning the tiles outdoors and letting them air dry also helps to dissipate the smell as well.
Is it possible to create a 4' x 4' mat using center pieces, border pieces and corner pieces? From the picture it doesn't seem that the corner piece can be interlocked with the border piece, same for border-to-border pieces.
Jack
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tile corners and borders do interlock with other. The borders also interlock with each other as well. So to create the size mat you are looking for you have two options. The first option is to use 4 corner pieces. This will give you a mat size that is just a few inches smaller than a 4' x 4' mat. The next option would be to use 4 corner tiles, 4 border tiles, and 2 center tiles to create a mat that is slightly larger than a 4' x 4' mat. On the product page you can enter in your desired size and it will give you two options for achieving your desired mat or floor.
Putting the 8mm rubber tiles over new hardwood floor. What should I lay down between them? The rubber directly on the hardwood would ruin the wood, correct? Thanks.
Blake
You can place our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles directly on your wood floor. In most cases the rubber will not affect the wood flooring at all. If there is a concern that it might, you can always place a plastic sheet between the rubber flooring and the wood to help protect the woods finish.
We are looking to make part of a large room a home "gym studio." We were not planning to remove the carpet in the part of the room where we want equipment... we are just planning to place the flooring on top. Will this damage or stain the underlying carpet?
Anonymous
If your carpet is a light colored carpet, there is potential for our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles to stain the carpet. To prevent this, we suggest using a plastic sheet between the tiles and the carpet.
Are there any toxic fumes associated with these rubber tiles?
Rebecca Withers
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles are non-toxic and do not off-gas any toxic fumes. These tiles go through a vigorous cleaning process to ensure the safety of the floor. These tiles are also tested to ensure no hazardous material is contained in them, and to get a copy of this testing; please feel free to contact one of our Flooring Heroes via chat, email, or phone.
Will this flooring move, does it need to be glued down or nailed down?
Anonymous
In most installations, our 8mm Strong Rubber tiles will stay in place without any need for glue or tape. In certain instances, gluing the floor maybe necessary. Typically this is olympic lifting areas of commercial gyms. This is due to the amount of traffic typically found in these areas in commercial gyms.
Can this be used for a garage flooring? if so, how does it hold up over time. Pics?
dan
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles can be used as garage flooring. A car can drive over these tiles and now ruin them. There are a few things that you would have to be aware of having rubber tiles as a garage floor. The first is when oil comes into contact with this floor, over time the oil will start to break down the tile in the areas that come in contact with the oil. Most vehicles don't leak oil, but if you do have a vehicle that does, you can put a plastic sheet down where you park your car. The next issue that may occur is that when entering your garage if you make any hard turns you may pop the rubber tiles up. If you do run into this issue, you can easily glue the tiles down with a polyurethane adhesive.
Can this rubber tile be direct on top of hard wood floor? Is it safe to use a 300 lbs power rack? If not, do I need extra layer in between?
Nathan
You can install our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles directly over hardwood flooring. These tiles are the same as the rolls that we used in the Biggest Loser Gym, so a 300 lb. power rack will be just fine on this floor. If you did have any concern about the rubber flooring staining your hardwood flooring, you could place a plastic sheet between the rubber and wood, but this is not necessary for most installations.
I work at a concrete company that has old linoleum tiles that are either broke or gone. Underneath is a regular wooden floor. Do I just tear out the remaining tiles, and lay down the new rubber floor without any kind of adhesive on the existing wood floor?
jeff
Depending on how uneven the surface is, removing the rest of the tile may be necessary. Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles are interlocking tiles and require no adhesive, so you can install these tiles without the need for adhesive.
Would this be suitable stall flooring for miniature horses? They only weigh 200 lbs, but I'm concerned about their urine. Would the urine sit on top or soak between the tiles or into their pores?
Molly
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles would work as stall flooring for miniature horses. The tiles do interlock tightly, so liquids would have a tough time getting in between them. The tiles can be sealed with our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer, which will prevent liquids from getting in the pores of the floor. We do offer non-porous tiles that don't need to be sealed. These interlocking tiles are just as easy to install as our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles and will keep liquids from going in between the tiles. Examples of these types of tiles are our Rubber Gym Tiles, 3/4" Diamond Top Horse Mats, 1/2" Button Top Stall Mats and our 3/4" Waffle Backed Animal Mats.
Can these tiles be used under water to protect swimming pool steps and bottoms?
Paul
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles can be used underwater to protect swimming pool steps and bottoms.
How easy is it to clean up dust, or more specifically, wood sawdust? would it be easily sweepable or would it require a strong blower, or water rinse?
b
You can clean wood sawdust easily from our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles with a blower and a hose to get any stuck on particles. Just like the tiles air dry and they will look like new!
Do these create static?
Tracey
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles are not rate as anti-static. These tiles will provide less of a charge potential compared to carpet, but can still create an electric shock.
I see that the tiles are 23" x 23". Does this measurement include the interlocking edge, so that once I put two tiles together there is an overlap of 1" and thus the width of the two is now 23" + 22" = 45" i.e. every additional tile adds only 22" to the width?
Joe
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles, when interlocked, are 23" x 23" so when two tiles are interlocked the size would be 46" long by 23" wide.
Would these be suitable for a restaurant kitchen floor exposed to fryer oil?
Colin
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles would work fine as flooring in your kitchen. If the grease is not cleaned up quickly, there is potential for it to get in the pores of the floor. We do have kitchen tiles and mats that a made specifically for this type of application and can be found on our commercial kitchen mats page.
We have a condo in Florida on the beach that is about 150 sq ft. The building is old and has moved a bit over time due to the fact that its built on sand and has withstood a major hurricane. Consequently, most conventional coverings like tile are out as one area has a significant hump and there is also some unevenness due to overlapping "membranes" on it. Moreover, this area gets wet from salt spray regularly. So...will this product ride over our "humps" and will it get slimy?/mildewy either on top or underneath from the elements?
Jerry
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles are very durable, but will not lay perfect if there are major issues with the floor. For floors with humps, we recommend using a rubber roll. Our 8mm Strong Rubber Rolls are made from the material but in a roll format. They are resistant to mold and mildew growth and will not get slimy from the elements. One issue you may run into is that salt may get in the pores of the floor.
Is this flooring able to be used in a restaurant kitchen?
Anonymous
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles can be used in a commercial kitchen. These tiles are very slip resistant when wet and are very easy to clean and maintain. If dirt and debris were to get under the tiles, simply lift them up clean them and let them air dry. Once dry you will be able to place them back to their original spot and your floor will look virtually new.
You mentioned that with temperature fluctuations these tiles might contract or buckle if used outside. We would like to use them under a large patio covered with a roof. The temperature will fluctuate between 30-35 F at night sometimes in the winter and 95 degrees during the day in the summer. Would these tiles be suitable for this application?
Anonymous
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles can be installed under a large patio where there will be temperature fluctuations. To help alleviate these issues we recommend installing the tiles with an expansion gap of about 1/2" to allow for the flooring to properly expand and contract.
Would this surface allow a basketball to bounce on it? We want to install in an area that has a hoop but are not sure if the rubber would prevent bouncing a ball.
Marla
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles will allow a ball to bounce on them. If you are using these tiles as a basketball court, we do recommend adhering these tiles as they can separate while performing certain basketball moves. You can first start out with no adhesive and then if need be, go to double-sided tape and if the tiles are still moving our 5900 adhesive.
How do you clean these tiles? Do they provide any air circulation so no mold builds up underneath them?
Linda
To clean our 8mm, Strong Rubber Tiles all you will need to do is sweep or vacuum any large dirt and debris and mop the tiles with a mild soap and water solution and let them air dry. Rubber is naturally resistant to mold and mildew growth, so unless there is some organic material under the tiles, no mold or mildew will grow.
I am planning on using these tiles on a concrete floor in our basement that has radiant heat tubing in the concrete so the floor is warm. Will the rubber insulate the room from the warm floor and make the room cold? Any other concerns?
Matt
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles would not change the warmth of the room. These rubber tiles would act as an insulator and would help to keep the room warm.
Are the edge pieces beveled?
Andrea
The edging on our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles is not beveled.
Can you install these tiles over a commercial grade carpet?
Anonymous
You can install our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles over commercial carpet.
Are these tiles durable enough to use in an area where I would be siting on a chair with wheels and rolling around on it?
Tess
We would recommend purchasing a chair mat for added protection just to be safe.
I am considering these for my new cycle studio that has concrete floors. How do you clean dirt off them? ANd how about sweat?
Anonymous
To clean our 8mm, Strong Rubber Tiles all you will need to do is sweep or vacuum any large dirt and debris and mop the tiles with a mild soap and water solution and let them air dry.
I would use this in front of a dartboard - real steel-tip darts. Would a dart, dropped from, say 6' penetrate the rubber and make contact with my floor surface underneath?
Russ
You can use our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles for this application. The dart would penetrate the tile, but would not penetrate all the way through to the floor underneath. The rubber tiles would act like the typical cork boards that are used around dart boards, but it would be better since it is more durable and would last longer.
Do you have corner or border tiles with options for a perpendicular beveled edge? Some of our tiles will be facing out into the room.
Beth
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles do not have beveled edging as an option. These tiles have a straight edge but to get a beveled edge, we recommend purchasing our Rubber Floor Ramps.
Would heat over 100 degrees damage the tiles? I live in Arizona, and that heat is common in the summer.
Anonymous
100-degree heat would not damage our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles. These tiles are made from the same material as your car tires and can withstand extreme hot and cold without losing integrity.
We are revamping a large box truck into a tactical command post. Could get muddy and wet depending on weather. Is this a good item to put down for flooring and if so what is preferred cleaning method? How hard the tiles to cut to custom fit inside the box truck? The command post will be outfitted with chairs, conference table, computers and TV's.
CPl. Mark ALexander
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles would be great as flooring in a converted large box truck. These rubber tiles are very easy to clean. For large dirt and debris, all you have to do is sweep it out of the truck. For stuck on dirt and mud, we recommend using a mild soap and water solution and a synthetic or sponge mop to clean the floor. You would then let your flooring air dry. These rubber floor tiles are very easy to cut with a sharp utility knife and straight edge. They cut as easy as cutting butter and can be made to fit any space. Furniture can be placed over these tiles without damaging them or creating indents in the floor.
Do you start the tile installation from the center of the room and work your way towards the walls?
Ken
If you are installing only center tiles, we recommend installing our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles from the center of the room. If you are installing your floor with center and border tiles, we recommend starting in one corner of the room and installing in a perpendicular pattern from the starting point.
Any slipping/separating doing p90x on these tiles?
Brent
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles will not slip or separate when doing p90x or similar types of exercises. These tiles interlock very tightly and will stay interlocked.
Would this work as a dance floor to practice ballet on or other types of dance? Would it have the right amount of give/support?
Julie Scarboro
Since our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles would have superior traction, they may not be the best flooring option as the main floor for Ballet or other styles of dance. These tiles would be great as a subfloor for our standard line of dance flooring, which can be installed over these tiles. If you are looking for rubber tiles or rolls that would give you the proper controlled-slip that is needed, then some product examples that we offer are PaviGym's line of rubber tiles, our Impact Roll - Wood Series rolls, and our Impact - HD Series rolls.
Is this flooring durable enough to withstand the rigors and traffic of a large high school football team and their cleats?
Eric Oglesby
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles can be used as flooring in a locker room or dugout. These tiles are very durable and are commercially rated. We typically recommend using our 1/2" thick rubber or thicker for these types of applications, but these tiles would work.
How do I create a "T" configuration with the 8mm strong rubber tiles? When I attach a center tile to an Edge tile to start to create the top of the "T," I get a small gap at the corner of the tile.
Mitchell Werther
When installing our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles in an odd-shaped room, we recommend using all center tiles. The reason we suggest this is that not all tiles will interlock properly with each other. Center tiles can interlock with border tiles, but they will not interlock with corner tiles properly. Due to this fact, we recommend just cutting our center tiles to fit the space so that you can get a floor that looks uniform and professional.
Do these provide a slight cushion as compared to concrete flooring for workouts (p90x/insanity)?
Bob
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tile will provide ample cushion compared to concrete when doing workouts like p90x or Insanity. Our 8mm Strong Rubber Rolls are the same flooring surface that you would find at any major gym.
Do these tiles off-gas and have an odor? I want to use them in an enclosed trailer but can’t tolerate the smell of off-gassing rubber.
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles do have an odor to them, but it is not as strong as most rubber floors. To help dissipate this smell, we recommend mopping the floor with a mild soap and water solution with a synthetic mop head. We would also recommend letting the flooring air dry in a well-ventilated room. You may have to do this a few times to get the smell to dissipate truly.
What is the size of the tiles?
mike
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles are 23" x 23" in size. All tiles are this size whether they are corner, border, or centers and the interlocked size is 23" x 23" as well.
What is your suggestion for a rubber flooring for outside use? Children will be playing on this floor.
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles can be used as flooring outdoors, but we would not recommend them as flooring for a playground. For playgrounds, we would recommend using one of our playground tiles. We offer a wide range of tiles, mulch, and mats that would be great for use in any type of playground. You can find these products on our playground flooring page.
What is the maximum pounds per square foot allowed on the rubber tiles to hold up?
Gregg
At a static load rate of 1000 pounds per square inch, these tile depressed less than .020 inches. So they will be able to withstand a good deal of weight before they indent.
Would the 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles be suitable for exercises such as lunges, squats, burpees and jump rope? I need an anti-slip surface and some shock absorption.
Heather
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles can be used for all types of exercises and have been used as flooring in both commercial and residential gyms. These tiles will provide a very slip resistant surface to work out on even when wet and are shock absorbent. With certain exercises, there is potential for the tiles to pop out of place. If you run into this, you can use some double-sided tape in the areas that have this issue.
I have a round room that I would like to cover the floor with 8mm Strong Rubber tiles. Can you cut a group of tiles so that I can install them into my round room. The room is twelve feet in diameter. What would be the cost for tiles and the cutting for a round room?
Darrel Moon
You can easily cut our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles with a sharp utility knife and a tool to keep your cuts straight. These tiles cut as easy as a warm butter knife cuts butter.
We want to update our small fitness center at our school. Will the 8mm rubber tiles be the best option for a school fitness center? It is used for personal training time as well as physical fitness during gym class. The class sizes are no more than 10-15 at a time and not used every period.
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles will work great in any commercial environment and would be perfect for a school fitness center. The tiles are 1mm thinner than the standard 3/8" floors seen at most gyms. So they will provide you with the same great qualities as their thicker cousins at a better price.
We have 8mm black tiles, and they look great. Boxers sweat profusely! We need recommendations for cleaning and disinfecting.
Suzanne Fenn
You can easily clean our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles with a mild soap and water solution or our Rubber Floor Cleaner and Degreaser. You would just sweep or vacuum any large dirt and debris and then mop the floor with a mop that has a synthetic mop head. To disinfect these tiles, we recommend using our Gym Cleaner / Disinfectant. This will help to keep any harmful microbes at bay. To further aid in cleaning and disinfecting, we recommend using our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer. This will help to seal up the small pores found in our flooring and preventing dirt and bacteria from getting caught in them. If you use this, you will want to clean the floor with mild soap and water, as the Rubber Floor Cleaner and Degreaser will strip the sealer off the floor.
Does the 8mm flooring for a home gym have to go wall-to-wall or can it be used for a 12'x12' "mat"? The room is very large, and we do not need it all to be covered.
Jackie Pundmann
You can install our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles as a mat or as a whole floor. The tiles interlock together, and due to the weight of all the tiles interlocked together, the flooring will not move when in use. If for some reason the tiles did move when not installed wall-to-wall, recommend placing some double-sided tape or glue around the edge of the mat.
Can you install these over carpeting?
Keith
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles can be installed over carpet. We recommend installing it over commercial-grade carpet as this type of carpet is flat and will not create tripping hazards due to tile separation. You can install these tiles over plush, thick pad residential carpet, but there is potential for the tiles to separate due to the pad depressing. This, in turn, could create a tripping hazard.
How well does your rubberized flooring hold up to ice skates?
Fred Neugebauer
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles have been used as flooring in ice skating rinks, but are not a durable as our vulcanized tiles. Examples of vulcanized tiles are our Rubber Gym Tiles. These tiles are more durable and are stronger, ensuring a longer-lasting product when the metal blades of ice skates are on them.
Can you give me advice on how to thoroughly clean the floors? Ours is showing dust and wear patterns that we cannot get to look clean.
Jennifer
When cleaning our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles, we recommend cleaning them with a mild soap and water solution with a synthetic mop head. You can vacuum up any large dirt and debris with a brushless vacuum. If you have a vacuum with a brush, just turn the brush option off is you have the ability to or use the hose attachments. The best way to keep any of our rubber flooring products looking great is to use our Rubber Floor Cleaner and Degreaser and our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer. Since most rubber flooring is mostly black, footprints, dust, and powders will show quite visibly. With our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer, you will be able to keep those from showing as much. To apply our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer, you will want to follow the instructions on the bottle. You will only want to use mild soap and water solutions when mopping the floor. When the sealer is ready to be reapplied, you will need to remove the sealer with our Rubber Floor Cleaner and Degreaser and then reapply per the instructions.
Has anyone put a spa on 8mm tiles? The application would on a porcelain tile floor, which is laid on a concrete slab. The spa is 7'3 x 7'3 and weighs approx. 4500lbs with water. It is located in a screened outdoor patio. As the roof is screened, it will get wet. The purpose is to reduce vibration between the porcelain floor and the polymer base of the spa.
John
People have installed spas or hot tubs over our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles. These tiles were designed to be used in commercial and home gyms where heavy fitness equipment would be installed, so they will be able to withstand the weight of the spa. The great thing about our rubber tiles in this type of install is that they are very slip resistant even when wet and are mold and mildew resistant. These rubber tiles are also very easy to clean and maintain and can be replaced easily if one were to become damaged.
Are these tiles good for workouts with lateral movements and CrossFit type of high-intensity workouts? Are they easy to wipe down sweat and dirt?
Melissa Arnold
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles are great for lateral movement workouts and CrossFit type workouts. These rubber tiles are the same material used in many commercial gyms and have been used as flooring in a number of chain commercial gyms and CrossFit gyms. These tiles are very easy to install and maintain. When cleaning these, you will want to sweep and large dirt and debris off the floor and then mop the floor with a mild soap and water solution. After mopping the floor, you will just let the floor air dry.
What are the dimension of your sample pieces?
Our Samples are typically a 3" x 3" size.
I’m looking for something that I can do some higher-impact cardio/plyo on. Will this be enough? I’m a smaller person and will be putting it down on concrete.
Christina
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles can be used as flooring for plyometric workout and high impact cardio, but we do have a line of high impact floors that would be better suited. A product that is similar to our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles that will give you more shock absorption is our 8mm Impact Rubber Tiles - Designer Series.
Hello. Are these tiles waterproof? Do they contain any toxic chemicals like phthalates?
Sherry
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles are not waterproof, but they are water-resistant. These rubber tiles are not toxic. Our rubber flooring is thoroughly cleaned to ensure that any hazardous material is removed. So no phthalates are found in our rubber flooring. We do provide MSDS' for our rubber flooring, which you can get by contacting one of our Flooring Heroes via phone, chat, or email.
What are the details of the five-year warranty & do you, as the manufacturer, back the warranty if it's installed by a professional?
Rachel Higgins
The warranty for the 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles is just a manufacturer defect warranty. These warranties only cover if the product were to fail due to faulty construction. This does not cover install, wear and tear, fading, staining, and the like.
I have an area in my basement for my equipment. The floor is already done with premium vinyl tile planks (Coretec). This product notes that some rubber floor mats will discolor it. Do you know what is used in the product? For example, some overseas made items use harmful plasticizers, such as phthalates, which can harm floor finishes.
Mike
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles do not use any phthalates in the making of the tiles. These tiles are made from the treads of commercial truck tires and will not stain any luxury vinyl flooring like Coretec. If you did have any concerns about our flooring staining your vinyl flooring, we recommend placing a plastic sheet under the tiles to prevent staining.
What’s the difference between 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles and the 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles?
The biggest difference between our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles and our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles is the size and that the Sport-Lock Tiles come with removable edges so that any tile can be turned into a corner, border, or center tile. The 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles come made as a corner, border, or center tile. The advantage to being able to have removable edges is that your floor can be made to look more seamless as you can turn a tile in any direction to get the inherent graining to match.
What does the "5% overage" option mean?
Lane
In flooring, we typically will suggest to our customers to order more flooring than is needed due to the fact that no room is truly square and cuts will need to be made. Since humans are the ones installing the flooring, mistakes can be made, so this overage can ensure that you have a few extra tiles on hand if a mistake while cutting were to occur. This overage is optional, so it is up to the customer if they would like to go with it or not.
This will be in an area with cats. Are they durable enough that they should withstand a reasonable amount of clawing? I get it won't be perfect but don't want it to end up only lasting a night.
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles are very durable and would be able to withstand a cat clawing on the tiles without being destroyed. These tiles are used in areas where heavy abuse is expected. Some of the places these tiles have been in baseball dugouts, in sports locker rooms, and much more.
Are these the only colors? I was hoping to find black with orange spots? Very similar to what you have but with orange vs blue.
Semeon
You can see more colors that are available in our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles in our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles - Designer Series. These colors take a little more time to produce and thus are not on our quick shipping 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles page.
Are the 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles water jet cut or stamped?
eric feagler
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles are stamped out.
Are any tools needed to assemble the tiles into a mat?
Brian Zack
No tools are needed to install our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles ad a mat.
Can these rubber tiles be used for a shower floor?
BARRY
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles can be used as flooring in a shower. Our rubber flooring is mold and mildew resistant and are very slip resistant and even more so when wet. These rubber tiles are also very easy to clean and maintain.
Thinking of laying this 8mm pad on my garage floor in Colorado. Wondering if the cold weather/temps will affect the fit of the tiles? Thanks
Richard Seals
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles will behave like anything else that is exposed to the elements. The flooring will expand and contract throughout the day with the heating and cooling of the day. We recommend if you are going wall-to-wall with your installation, that you leave at least a 5/16" gap around the floor to allow for proper expansion and contraction.
What is the overage about?
Franck
We recommend 5% overage on our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles and all of our flooring to ensure that you have enough flooring to cover your space. These extra tiles can be used as replacement flooring for damaged tiles or as spare tiles when installing. Mistakes can and do happen, so it's always good to have a few extra tiles lying around to complete your new floor.
You recommend placing a plastic sheet between carpet and these tiles to prevent staining. What kind of plastic sheet are you talking about? It would seem the tiles would slide around on top of a plastic sheet.
Polly Faltin
You can use any type of plastic sheeting under our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles over carpet. The weight of the rubber tiles and it's natural slip-resistance will keep the tiles in place.
Is the tile with blue flakes on a black background or blue background?
jim prosser
The color flec in our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles and all of our rubber products are mixed in with the black recycled tire rubber that makes our rubber flooring. So there is no true background. If a color says it has 10% of color, that means that we added 10% of that certain color to the black recycled material used to make the product.
I will have a dumbbell rack with 15 pairs of dumbbells ranging from 50-120 pounds. The total weight will be something like 2800 lbs spread across the four legs of the rack. Will this kind of weight damage or permanently indent the rubber tiles?
Paul
The weight of the dumbbell rack, when full, will not damage our 8mm Strong Rubber Rolls. You may see a slight depression where the legs of the rack sit, but this dimple will bounce back over time once the rack is removed.
When used outdoors, is it breathable so that if any water gets under the mat, it won't create moisture under the mat?
If water were to get under our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles or any rubber product, it might evaporate over time if there is enough air flowing under the flooring. If not, water will pool under the tiles until they are pulled up and the water is allowed to evaporate.
Are these safe for a wood and metal working shop where sparks and open flames may be present?
Yes our rubber tiles have been used successfully in several metal working shops . As always, use caution when working with open flames.
Looking at putting rubber flooring down on my tile to protect it from a very heavy treadmill. I rent, so it's important to me that the tile stays in good shape. Will the rubber leave black marks on the tile?
Danielle
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles will not leave black marks on tile. If you were concerned, we recommend placing a plastic sheet under the tiles to protect the tile flooring underneath.
Are the 8mm black tiles slightly speckled?
patty
With any of our black rubber flooring, there is potential to be some color flec in the flooring. This is pretty rare but can happen. Typically if you order our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles in black, they are all black.
Are these tiles non-porous and treated with an anti-bacterial agent? As the ones being sold by American Floor Mat are, Fit Lock Rubber Tiles.
Weston T Turner
The Fit Lock Rubber Tiles from American Floor Mats are not a non-porous tile and are not treated with an anti-microbial treatment. Like our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles, they are made from urethane rubber and have some small pores in the flooring. To make your flooring resistant to bacterial growth and keep the flooring clean, we recommend using our Gym Cleaner / Disinfectant and our Rubber Floor Cleaner and Degreaser. These two products will help to keep your gym clean and smelling fresh after heavy workouts. Another option for keeping your gym hygienic would be to use our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer. This will help fill in those pores to mitigate that 'Gym Smell' and make cleaning your floor easier. When using this product, you don't want to use our Rubber Floor Cleaner and Degreaser. Instead, you can use a mild soap and water solution to keep your gym smelling fresh and clean.
Is there any reason to NOT use these in a bathroom or kitchen?
michael
You can use our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles in a bathroom or kitchen. In bathrooms, you will want to seal the edges like you would a vinyl floor to create a water-tight floor that won't allow water to flow to the subfloor. In a kitchen, the only thing you will need to worry about will be oils. Oils over time can break down the binder in our rubber flooring, so it is imperative that you clean up any spilled oils as quickly as possible. Other than that, these rubber tiles are very slip-resistant and more so when wet and are very easy to clean and maintain. Since these tiles are semi-porous, we would recommend that you seal the floor with our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer in both installations.
Is there any instruction or advice for disassembling and moving rubber tiles?
Adriana
You can find all of our installation instructions for our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles and all of our rubber flooring products in the Installation tab on the product page.
Can the 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles be hosed off and air-dried prior to installation?
Yes, our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles can be hosed off and left to air dry before installing them. If you add some soap, this will help reduce the smell of the product if you are sensitive to smells.
Hi. I will be using 8mm rubber floor tiles in a room that right now has only a plywood subfloor. What do you suggest I use as an underlayment for the rubber tiles, or can I place them right onto the plywood subfloor? Thank you in advance for your response.
Tom
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles don't require an underlayment under them. They can be installed directly over any subfloor like plywood, concrete, OSB, etc., over any existing floor. As long as the surface where the tiles are being installed is hard and flat, our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles can be installed over it.
I am going to be installing these over a concrete floor. The floor has little imperfections here and there. Do the tiles contour or sink into the holes, or are they strong enough to hold their shape over a 2-3 inch imperfection?
Michelle
Our 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles can be installed over minor imperfections in your subfloor. If there are any large and deep pits, there is potential for the tiles to become damaged. We would recommend repairing the subfloor before installation.

It has been about a month since I installed the 8mm rubber tiles and I am a very happy customer. At first I wanted to get the 8mm rubber rolls because I did not want the tile look but glad I changed my mind. Sure, at different lighting you can pick up where the tiles are but it is not that big of a deal. As for the seams, most all are pretty seamless and hard to spot. I went with the tiles instead of the rolls mainly as I was replacing wall to wall carpet and figured cutting around the edges and entries with tiles would be easier than dealing will a 140lb 20ft roll. Since I never used the rolls I cannot say if it was easier but the installation went smoothly with the tiles. One issue was getting a flooring transition. It was hard to find a rubber floor transition to use from the hardwood floor to the rubber floor. Finally it was Lowes that had the transition with the aluminum guide. It worked great, just make sure to nail it down in multiple spots. We use the room for both a game room and workout room. I have been doing P90X3 and with a lot of jumping around and plyometrics I have not seen any shifting or moving of the tile. I did not use any tape or glue during the installation. After a month there is still a slight rubber smell but it is mostly centralized to that room. The smell has gone down over time. We also considered using the much more expensive designer series colors but for a 250sq. ft. room it was about $600 more. I also called my flooring guy for a cost of product from them and they wanted $800 more than RubberFlooring.com. After the sticker shock with the designer series color we went with grey and I am very happy with our choice. I am someone who usually reads all the reviews but rarely writes them. Hopefully this review was helpful.

Customer service was very friendly and helpful when ordering product. Product was shipped in a timely manner. I really enjoyed working with the product, the material was easy to cut and fit. I was really happy with the floor after the project was complete. The rubber flooring is very forgiving when used over a older concrete floor. The seams are really unnoticeable after the squares are placed together and they make a nice clean looking floor.
