Tough rolled rubber is easy to clean. Maintenance of these rubber rolls typically includes:
  • Vacuuming or sweeping any loose dirt, crumbs, dust, or debris from the rubber floor surface when necessary.
  • Occasional damp mopping of the rolls with a mild soap and water solution. A few recommended soaps are Dawn dish detergent or Tide laundry detergent.
Note: Do not use any solvent or oil style cleaners such as Pine-Sol, Lysol, Murphy’s Oil Soap, WD40, paint thinner, etc., since these types of cleaners will break down the flooring over time.

When installing rolled rubber flooring, it is recommended that you use an adhesive to prevent the rolls from moving around or sliding apart between adjacent rolls. The most common methods of adhering rubber rolls to the subfloor are:

A: Double-Sided Tape Installation
  1. First, clean your subfloor so that it is free of all dust, dirt, and debris.
  2. Loose lay your rolls in the room as you would like them to look after a complete installation. Let the rolls relax for 24-48 hours to ensure the proper installation of your new flooring.
  3. Note: Rolls may be directional, so make sure the color matches on each roll. If the roll colors do not match, flip them or turn them 180 degrees to ensure the color matches.
  4. Make any necessary cuts to the rolls to fit them into the room using a straight edge and a utility knife with a fresh blade. We recommend leaving a gap around the rolls roughly the thickness of the rolls being used to account for expansion and contraction.
  5. Roll up the rolls at one end of the room. Apply double-sided tape to the floor along the perimeter of each roll.
  6. Place the rubber rolls back into position on top of the double-sided tape.

B: Glue Installation
  1. First, clean your subfloor so that it is free of all dirt, dust, and debris. Also, when gluing your flooring down, it is recommended that the subfloor is free of any moisture.
Spread a light layer of polyurethane adhesive that is 10’ long (maximum) and unroll the flooring into the adhesive 10’ at a time.
  6. Repeat this step for every 10’ of roll length until the entire roll has been unrolled into its desired position.
  7. After all of the rolls have been glued down, it is often recommended to use a 100-pound roller on the floor to guarantee good adherence to the subfloor. If a roller is not available, walking on the flooring in small choppy steps may also work.

Can the 1/4" Pre Cut Tough Rubber rolls be sealed for use in a dog daycare?
Beth
Our 1/4" Pre Cut Tough Rubber Rolls can be sealed with our Floor Finish And Sealer. This will make the flooring water resistant, but not water proof.
Can this be installed outside?
Mike
Our 1/4" Pre Cut Tough Rubber Rolls can be installed outside. These rolls are made from recycled car tires and will be able to withstand the elements. In direct sunlight, the roll will fade a bit, but other than that, our Tough Rubber Rolls will work great outdoors.
How easily is this cleaned? Can you just wipe down with a wet rag? How long to dry? I need something easily cleanable that won't attract dirt/dust.
Matt
Our 1/4" Pre Cut Tough Rubber Rolls are very easy to clean. For any large dirt and debris, you can use a broom or a brushless vacuum to remove it. For any stuck-on dirt and debris, we recommend mopping the flooring with a synthetic or sponge mop with a mild soap and water solution. You would then just let the floor air dry. For any small spills, you can use a paper towel or washrag to clean up the spill.
What is the R-value per inch?
Tom Scheel
The R-value per inch for recycled rubber is 2.20.
Can these be installed in areas prone to flooding such as in wet basements? Will they develop mold if soaked for a day or more?
david zomick
Our 1/4" Pre Cut Tough Rubber Rolls are great as flooring in basements. Since these rolls are made from rubber, they are naturally mold and mildew resistant. If your basement were to flood, cleaning your rubber flooring is easy. First, we would recommend not gluing your flooring down as you will need to clean under the rubber flooring after the water has receded. You would then remove the rolls, clean them, and let them air dry. Once dry and the basement has been cleaned, you can then place your flooring back into your basement. No matter how long the water is sitting over the flooring, your rubber flooring will not be destroyed.
Can these pre-cut rolls be cut further?
Ramya
We do offer a custom cut version of our 1/4" Pre Cut Tough Rubber Rolls. The name of the product is called our 1/4" Tough Rubber Rolls. These rolls come 4' wide and can be cut to the closest whole foot. The minimum cut for the roll is located on the product page.
Can you use this flooring in a dog kennel or do you offer anything else that would work good in an outside dog kennel?
Our 1/4" Pre Cut Tough Rubber Rolls can be used in a dog kennel whether indoors or out. These rubber rolls are very easy to clean and maintain and are mold and mildew resistant. When being used in dog kennels and doggy daycares, we recommend sealing the floor with our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer. This will help to fill in the small pores that are found in the floor. If you are installing multiple rolls together, we also recommend using our Seam Sealer glue to make the seams watertight.
How would this work in a garage with car parking? How would it do in uneven concrete surfaces?
Craig Banks
You can install our Tough Rubber Rolls in a garage and park a car over them. The weight of the car will not damage them, and driving over them will not either. The only thing that will affect the floor is oil. So if your car were to leak oil, over time, the floor would start to breakdown where the oil hits it. If your car does leak, we recommend placing one of our Nitro Rolls or AutoFloorGuard's containment mats over the roll. Our rubber flooring is very pliable and will work just fine over uneven surfaces. If there are any large peaks or valleys, there is potential for damage to the roll. With those, we would recommend using a leveling compound on the floor.
Can you put this on top of thin or commercial carpet?
Mika
Our 1/4" Pre Cut Tough Rubber Rolls can be installed over commercial-grade carpet with ease.
I was looking into this to cover up some synthetic ice in my backyard. I live in Las Vegas, where it can be continually up to 120 for days. Will the Rubber melt or create marks on the synthetic ice and withstand that much heat without being warped or cracked?
Andrea
Our 1/4" Pre Cut Tough Rubber Rolls are made from recycled commercial truck tire tread. If your tires can handle the heat, our flooring will too. Our rubber flooring has been installed all over the US and Canada in some of the most extreme conditions. Our rubber flooring will not crack or warp due to the conditions. Now, that doesn't mean our rubber flooring won't expand and contract. All flooring, to an extent, will do this as these materials have a basis in natural products. So, if there are major temperature changes, there will be some expansion and contraction of your floor. You can install these as a protectant over your synthetic ice without our rubber flooring damaging it. If you are concerned that the flooring may leave marks, we recommend placing a plastic sheet between the existing surface and our rubber flooring. This sheet will ensure that no staining will occur.
Is the flooring slippery when wet?
Tim Roche
Our 1/4" Pre Cut Tough Rubber Rolls and all of our rubber flooring is very slip-resistant and even more so when wet. Rubber flooring is one of the most slip-resistant surfaces and is perfect for any areas where water may be present.

I recently placed a large order at rubberflooringinc.com and the experience I had was great from beginning to end. The floors are for an indoor cycling & fitness facility and they make the place look great. I had the pleasure of working with Fatimah who promptly answered all of my questions whenever I had any. She walked me through the delivery process and when I placed the order she made it as easy as possible. The customer service was great and I'm sure the rubber floor we ordered will be just as great (based on others' reviews it is!) Not to mention the great price!
1/4 Inch Custom Cut Gym Flooring Rolls
Self-installed in Bedroom for a special needs son.
Steve from Bealeton, VA wrote...
I just installed 1/4 rubber flooring in a bedroom for my Autistic son. I used on-line chat to get my custom quote. Ahead of that I ordered samples. This was very helpful for selecting the color. The teal seemed to pop as compared to the other colors. The process was explained to me and played out as described. The delivery was placed in the open bay of my garage and care was taken in the packaging of the rolls for delivery. Scrap pieces of rubber were used to protect the ends of the rolls. The rolls arrived in perfect condition. One of my rolls needed to extend into a closet and the other two needed to extend to a door which was at at an angle. I used paper to create a template. This worked like a charm. I suggest using that method for custom cuts. Cutting the 1/4 inch rolls was easy. I used a drywall T-square and a utility knife with a new blade. I was able to complete the install using the same blade. The install went over plywood sub floor and the seams were anchored with double backed tape. Suggest placing the tape down first, then peeling off the top side last. The finished product looks great; I just hope my son doesn't find a way to destroy it, he is good at that.

Self-installed in Entire house

After doing a fair amount of research, I settled on this flooring because I am finishing building a green, off-grid house and needed an eco-friendly flooring solution to cover my cold concrete slab. I ordered the brown fleck product without first seeing a sample. I am very pleased with the color and look of the final product and although I was initially worried that my flooring would look too commercial, it looks very nice. The main reson I chose the rolls was that this particular product is floor score certified and so should theoretically have fewer emissions. Only issues with install are that the ends are poorly cut, as others have noted, and one of the 6 rolls I ordered appears to have a curve in the length of product and despite installing them tightly together, the edge will not stay tight down the center on one side and the ends on the other. Besides the one roll however, the rest were straight and laid quite flat. So far after one week the rubber smell is very strong upon entering my house but I assume that will dissipate over time. Overall very satisfied with the flooring.
